DON'T REGISTER CASES UNDER SECTION 66A OF IT ACT; IMMEDIATELY WITHDRAW CASES, IF ANY: MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS TO STATES/ UTS The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Wednesday, asked all States and Union Territories to withdraw all the cases registered under Section 66A of the Information Technology Act (IT Act) and not to "book" anyone under the said provision as it has been struck down by the Supreme Court by its judgment in Shreya Singhal v. Union of India. The Court had expressed shock at the fact that numerous cases were being registered across the country despite the top court having quashed the provision more than 6 years ago. It is, therefore, requested to direct all police stations not to register cases under Section 66A of Information Technology Act, 2000 and sensitise law enforcement agencies for compliance of the order issued by the Supreme Court on March 24, 2015.
