“TORT LAW TO BE ENACTED” : MADRAS HIGH COURT TO THE CENTRAL GOVERNMENT The Madras High Court has directed the Central Government to consider introducing a bill on torts within the next 6 months. The Court relied on various SC judgements which called for a law on torts and state liability and stated “despite all these judgements, no proposal exists to bring out a comprehensive legislation in the field of Torts and State liabilities for violation of fundamental rights of the citizens at the hands of the States and its officials. The Court in its order also sought to change the status of the Law Commission of India to either a Statutory/Constitutional Body within 6 months and that more funds must be allotted to it for better infrastructure and research.
