SUPREME COURT STAYS FOURTH FIR REGISTERED AGAINST OPINDIA EDITOR NUPUR SHARMA BY WEST BENGAL GOVT A Bench of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and MM Sundresh passed the order on a plea by Sharma about the FIR registered in connection with OpIndia’s coverage of the Telinipara riots in Bengal in 2020. The petitioner stated that the fourth FIR was the latest in a series of FIRs that were filed maliciously against OpIndia. In June 2020, the top court had stayed three FIRs filed by the West Bengal government against four persons, three of them associated with OpIndia for articles published on the portal. The Court in its order passed on Friday also said that the interim orders passed in the main writ petition are made absolute.
