CHILDREN HELPING OUT PARENTS TO SELL SMALL ARTICLES IS NOT CHILD LABOUR: KERALA HIGH COURT The Kerala High Court was hearing a plea by parents from Rajasthan who had moved to Kerala with their children to make a living by selling items such as pens, chains, bangles, etc. On November 29, 2022, the police produced the children before Child Welfare Committee on allegation that they were being forced to do child labour by selling articles on the streets. The children were subsequently sent to Snehabhavan Shelter Home. The Kerala High Court held that children helping parents by selling small articles cannot be regarded as child labour. The Court further advised that the State should attempt to provide the children with proper education in conditions of freedom by clarifying that there is no doubt that children should be sent for education instead of being allowed to loiter in the streets.
