CANNOT BOOK OFFENCE AGAINST A DOG UNDER THE IPC: BOMBAY HIGH COURT The Bombay High Court has ruled that although parents may treat their dogs like children, a person cannot be charged under Sections 279 and 337 of the IPC, which deal with risking a person's life, for the death of a dog. An FIR against a Swiggy food delivery partner who collided with a dog as he was operating his vehicle while the animal was attempting to cross the road was dismissed by a court of Justices Revati Mohite Dere and Prithviraj Chavan. Both were hurt, but the animal expired from its wounds. The court assessed a penalty of Rs. 20, 000 on the state and stated that the officers' decision to file the accused under IPC Sections 279, 337, and 449 "defied logic." The judgement ordered that the cost amount be deducted from the pay of the involved officials.
