The Allahabad High Court, while responding to a Public Interest Litigation, directed the Uttar Pradesh State Government to give a reply as to why the Government has not utilized any funds from the Nirbhaya Fund which was created to be used towards women safety and helping women victimized by violence. The bench of Chief Justice Govind Mathur and Justice S.S. Shamsheri passed this order while hearing the PIL filed by advocate Mamta Singh. The petitioner stated that, “according to data from 18 states, only 15 percent of the fund has been spent till date”. The petition has sought details of expenditure along with the Nirbhaya fund amount and steps taken for the safety of women.
