The media had recently highlighted the issue of medicines expiring and going to waste in hospitals without any patients requiring them. The Bench stressed that the State is the trustee of taxpayer money and as such wastage of funds must not be allowed. The Bench also made inquiries as to whether the State had any software system in place to monitor the passage of medicines.
