SUPREME COURT UPHOLDS STRIKING DOWN OF REQUIREMENT OF 20 YEARS EXPERIENCE TO BE STATE CONSUMER FORUM MEMBER The Supreme Court cleared the door for attorneys and other experts with ten years of relevant experience to join state and district consumer forums. It upheld the Bombay High Court decision which set aside the rules governing the president and members of state and district consumer dispute resolution commissions under the Consumer Protection Regulations, 2020. The Court stated that it was unconstitutional to require professionals to have 20 years of experience in order to be members of consumer forums when a lawyer only needs 7 years of experience to become a district judge.
