SONY PICTURES PLEA TO RESTRAIN UNAUTHORIZED BROADCASTS OF THE ONGOING TOKYO OLYMPICS The Delhi High Court has recently passed a ruling in favor of the Sony Pictures Network which restrained unauthorized broadcasts of the Tokyo Olympics through illegal mediums such as websites, multi-system operators and local cable operators. The Court in furtherance of this ruling directed Internet Service Providers to block all unauthorized websites which are illegally streaming the games. Advocate Abhishek Malhotra in his contention has stated that Sony Pictures, his client, has an exclusive license to broadcast the games and a total of 40 websites have been streaming the games illegally which was infringement of its copyright. The plea further went on to state that according to the new IT rules, ISP’s are bound to protect a party’s proprietary rights and that action must be taken against these habitual defaulters.
