JOSHIMATH CRISIS- PIL FILED BY RELIGIOUS LEADER SWAMI AVIMUKTESHWARANAND SARASWATI IN SUPREME COURT The PIL has been filed seeking to declare Joshimath as a National Disaster and direct the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to offer support to the residents affected. The plea also seeks financial assistance and compensation to the residents of Joshimath, Uttarakhand. The plea sought a direction to bring an instant halt to construction and building work at the Tapovan Vishunugad Hydro Electric Project Tunnel. The gateway to Hemkund Sahib and Badrinath, Joshimath, has been officially declared as a landslide-subsidence zone following the incidents of land subsidence as well as homes and roads developing cracks. The Uttarakhand CM issued an order for evacuation of affected families.
