India Facing Cyber Security Concerns Amidst COVID-19 Pandemic India being one of the greatest digital data markets in the world is facing perilous threats to its cyber security and data storage during the COVID-19 pandemic. Data around healthcare has come in handy for Covid-19, but there are still concerns about privacy violations. Cybersecurity firms such as Cyfirma and Malwarebytes Labs have highlighted threats from Pakistan. Malwarebytes Labs highlighted similar concerns coming from a hacker group APT36. It also came to light recently that IT service giant Cognizant suffered a Maze ransomware attack. According to researchers at Israeli cyber security firm Check Point Research, 93% of malicious files in India were delivered via the web, compared to 35% of malicious files globally. The Indian IT Act 2000, does not fully protect its citizens from new threat vectors such as phishing, SIM jacking, mobile payments fraud, bank fraud, malware attacks etc. Thus the Indian government is expected to release a new cyber security policy this year.
