"Delhi High Court Refuses Injunction in Gautam Gambhir Defamation Case" A defamation case brought by former cricketer and BJP MP Gautam Gambhir against Punjab Kesari newspaper was recently heard by the Delhi High Court. According to the lawsuit, the newspaper routinely targeted him with harmful and defamatory stories, fabricating information about his accomplishments and credentials as a lawmaker. A public person must have thick skin, the court said during the hearing, even though some of the newspaper's statements may have been inappropriate. The court did not grant a restraining order against the newspaper but did give notice regarding Gambhir's defamation lawsuit and his request for preliminary injunction. The cricketer's quoted articles, according to Gambhir's attorney, went beyond the bounds of fair and impartial reporting. He asked for an injunction and instructions telling the reporters to use Gambhir's account when they write reports. The Bench, however, declined to issue a general directive. Gambhir is requesting retraction of all defamatory publications against him as well as 2 crores in damages to be donated to charitable groups from the defendants. He also wants an unconditional apology from them. In October, the case will be heard.
