Child Pornography Spikes in India amidst Lockdown In times when the entire nation is fighting against the grip of COVID-19, The India Child Protection Fund has come up with some disturbing news revealing the ugly side of our society even in times of crisis. The ICPF set up in January 2020 by Bhuvan Ribhu has detected a steep increase in demand for child pornography along with an increase in traffic on Pornhub from India by 95% since March 24-26, 2020.The report titled “Child Sexual Abuse Material in India” maps trends from 100 Indian cities and towns including New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Indore among others. State Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on 20.04.2020 said that 133 FIRs were registered and 46 people were arrested by the Maharashtra Police in connection with cases related to child pornography since the nationwide lockdown. Child Pornography has been exclusively dealt with under Section 67B of the Information Technology Act, 2008.
