CCTVs to be installed in every Police Station: The Hon’ble Supreme Court in its judgment Paramvir Singh Saini v. Baljit Singh, sent out directive to all states and union territories that they should install CCTVs in each and every police station, including the offices of CBI, ED, NIA, NCB, DRI and SFIO. CCTV Camera should be installed at entry/exit points, main gate of police station, entry gate, all lock ups, all corridors, lobby, all verandas, inspector’s room, sub-inspector’s room, station hall. The camera’s should be equipped with night vision and must necessarily consist of audio as well as video footage. The court utilised the opportunity to order setting up of human rights courts in each district and stated that whenever there is an incident of serious injury or custodial death in a police station, a person can claim to human rights courts which can summon the CCTV footage for safe keeping.
